Why use a UPS?


In general, IT equipment or other electronic loads are protected by a UPS against problems that may affect their power supply. A UPS provides the following three basic functions:

1. it prevents damage to hardware due to surges and voltage spikes. Many UPS models also perform continuous conditioning of the input power supply.


2. it prevents data loss and data corruption. Without a UPS, data from a system can be corrupted by sudden uncontrolled shutdowns, or even lost completely. In conjunction with power management software, the UPS can ensure a controlled shutdown of the systems.


3. it provides continuous availability of networks and other applications by avoiding downtime. UPSs can also be used in conjunction with generators, allowing sufficient time for generators to start up in the event of a power failure.
